Two contests for the young — ahem, that’s me —- and the not-so-very-young are ongoing on Facebook. Really, there are so many contests there, but these two got my attention.

For one, I’m into healthy lifestyle. Or I try my damned best to be.

After moving back to the Philippines just over a year ago, I somehow fell into a wonderful job of being a radio announcer / DJ. I wasn’t very creative with my radio name nor did I really do any research, and just used my real name of Vince G, with the “G” just being short of my last name, Golangco.

Months after my stint in radio had begun, I found out that my radio name of “Vince G” had actually been used before by former radio DJ Vince Garrucho.

Fortunately, no angry mails had come my way from fans of, or from the original Vince G himself.

Anyway, I hosted a Krispy Kreme exclusive movie screening of the new Green Lantern movie to also promote their new Green Lantern Kreme Doughnuts.

The cool part about tonight was meeting this very friendly guy named “Vince.” I could sense a radio voice when he introduced himself and I immediately asked if he was indeed, “Vince G?” To my surprise, he actually was!

This original Vince G was really nice and we even chit chatted about his past radio career and his current hobbies like photography and diving. Original Vince G also spoke of his new Helo-Diving business, where scuba divers first jump out of a helicopter when they get to their destination.

Anyway, just really excited to meet this Vince guy! He has a really cool name! =)

Comprised of young professionals and students, Pilipino American Unity for Progress (UniPro) is a state certified non-profit NGO that was established in 2009. Bonded by the common vision of promoting unity within the community, UniPro seeks to educate, collaborate and stimulate dialogue amongst Pilipino American organizations, programs, and institutions. UniPro also engages in various projects that promote the Pilipino community in American society.

Their mission is to promote cohesion within the Pilipino American society–its organizations, programs, and community for the collective progress of the community.

Certainly overwhelmed to be included on this list! Thanks so much to the people at the Pilipino American Unity for Progress UniPro for somehow recognizing any work I’ve done. Again, truly humbled by this and still unsure of how I made this list.

Ever since that first lightning strike and the discovery of electricity, the world had moved forward in dramatic ways! Taking us from the age of darkness into the age of light. Perhaps no other discovery or invention has come close to creating such a positive charge in the human race, except for the internet. Now, imagine if those two powerhouses can work together.

I was completely amazed at the recent Meralco exhibit where they showed off some of their up-and-coming technologies to help better improve the lives of Filipinos from all walks of life.

There was an entirely new concept of how we can consume electricity more efficiently and also how we can integrate the use of the internet to better secure our homes and save money and power.

From Smart Meters that allow you the option for prepaid electricity, to Smart Homes that presented modern day automated solutions for today’s appliances, it was all there for us to behold.

I was particularly excited about the “Home Area Network” feature where you could control your internet connected lights, locks, curtains, appliances and event thermostat of your home. With just a click of a button on your phone or tablet you could control everything in your home, without even being home. It just seemed like a great way to monitor your house and not having to worry on whether or not you locked the door or left some appliances running while you are out of town.

Furthermore, I was thoroughly impressed with the Meralco Apps that would give you information and access to Meralco services at your fingertips. You’ll be able to calculate which appliances contribute most to your electricity bill. You’ll also be able to know your Meralco bill details, locate the nearest Meralco business center, find out scheduled maintenance in your area and so much more, all available on your iPad, iPhone or Android powered device.

Overall, it was an exciting day and one filled with wonder about what more the future might bring.

I was nervous as hell! Not that I haven’t hosted or been on TV before… but I guess there was just something about being really excited about a job or an event that you think is really cool!

It was more of the “damn this is too good to be true” type jitters that had me shaken up a bit.

I’ve heard of big stars, celebrities, rockers and all the big stage performers talking about how they needed some fix to help calm them before performing on the big stage. I would have totally taken whatever they were taking if someone had offered me something just to calm myself.

Overall, I had a blast anyway!

On my first day at Channel [V] Philippines, I interviewed the winners of the Miss Philippines Earth pageant including Miss Philippines Earth 2010 winner Athena Mae Imperial, Miss Philippines Eco Tourism 2011 Tarhata Clio Shari Rico, Miss Philippines Fire 2011 Michelle Gavagan and Miss Philippines Water 2011 Murielle Adrienne Orais.

My cohost for this Channel V special feature was Star World international VJ, Cliff Cole.

We have a lot more shows and features lined up so stay tuned! I’m just glad to get that first feature out of the way to loosen me up a bit.

Brushing, flossing and rinsing with mouthwash was once a traumatic experience for me. I mean really, who has time to do all that?! But after a few weeks of doing that and feeling cleaner and healthier than ever before, I now have no clue how I did it.

Week 2: Clean My Dirty Filthy Mouth Report

I remember a co-worker of mine named George, always had this pet peeve against that people who did their job half-assed. George would say that it’s such a waste of time because though you may have been able to rush through the task initially, in the end, you’d just end up having to re-do the entire job or even end up with more work to do, just to cover up for the initial half-assedness… (is that a word?)

With that said I’m now making a pledge of “TOTAL CARE.”

Total care applies to everything from caring about my loved ones, caring about my planet, caring about both my girlfriends… and caring about my health!

First and foremost with my health would be my teeth. You’ve all heard the dentist tell you that the best way to protect them is do the trifecta! Brush, Floss and Gargle!

I’m on my second week of this six week Total Care challenge of Listerine and we’ll see what the dentist says on my evaluation checkup.

As for you guys, my loving readers, NOW is finally the time to make that promise, to make that PLEDGE to yourself to prevent plaque buildup! Reduce that bad plaque, which often leads to serious oral problems! Why wait until it’s too late… your teeth should not be left uncared for!

Finally able to put down my Angry Birds game…. I actually deleted it off my iPad… I swear games will be the end of me… haha.

Anyway with my new found (or long lost) time now, I was finally able to finish the book I’ve been reading.

I’m actually re-reading this book and highly highly HIGHLY recommend it.

The books is called: “How to Talk to Anyone – 92 Little Tricks for Big Success” by Liel Lowndes.

I can 100% say that any success I’ve had in life this far has something to do with this book.

From learning about how to start small talk, to having big business talks, it’s all in here. From meeting someone at a bar to meeting someone in the boardroom. Learn how to talk like the top cats while still being able to communicate to that cute girl at the party.

Wherever you are, whatever the situation. This book has a tip in there to help you with your personal and professional life!

Highly recommend this book. Communication is often overlooked and underrated.

The joy and laughter that resonates across the room is indeed hard to forget. However, it has been quite a while that such gathering by family members has come to pass. Geographical locations, work commitments and other personal endeavors have driven to a wedge towards the materialization of this rare occasion.

Upon learning of this contest, nothing came to my mind but the long overdue family reunion culminating with an all inclusive SPA.
